If you are a business that offers a variety of services, you need to have a killer services page. Actually, let me clarify, you need multiple services pages. What? Yes, you saw that right.
When I say how to make your services page work, one of the things I mean is how to make sure that people can find you, and that once they do, they are satisfied enough to take the next step and contact you. How do you do that? Well, it starts with the services page.
If you offer multiple services, then you need a page for each service you offer.
Why? Why do you need a page for each service?
Because most of the time, people aren’t going to be searching for multiple services at once. If someone has an issue that they need help with, they are more than likely going to Google their specific issue. Say someone is looking to have their kitchen remodeled. They are likely going to Google the keyphrase “kitchen remodel” and not something generic. And if you don’t have a page about kitchen remodeling, your site is much less likely to come up in the search results.
But what if I put a services page and list all the services?
This is a common plan for many businesses when they are building their services. You think you’ve listed them all, so it should work, right? Well, the truth is that if you have multiple services on a single page, Google is less likely to know what that page is about. Is it about kitchen remodeling or bathroom remodeling? Both of those terms are there. If Google can’t decide, then they are going to serve up a website that is clear.
But it isn’t just about getting found in the search engines. Once someone lands on your site, they need to be convinced that you’re the right person for the job. And having just a list of services is not that convincing. It doesn’t build authority or trust, or show your expertise.
So what goes on a service page?
First, you need some content. Just having a page that says you offer a service isn’t going to sell anyone. This is the page where you sell this service. Why are you the best at it? Are there specific aspects that you specialize in? What are people saying about your work?
You need at least 300 words of text about this service. You should include a photo gallery of your work, if that’s applicable. But not too many photos, because that can be overwhelming. If you have testimonials that are relevant to that service, put them on that page too.
And finally, you need a call-to-action. You need to tell the person who has landed on that page what their next step is. Should they call you? Email you? Fill out your contact form? Schedule a consultation? Don’t be coy. Clearly state what their next step is, and make it super easy to take that next step.
Okay, so you’ve made six service pages, now how do people navigate to those pages? You need a service landing page that gives a brief overview of those services, and links to each service page. For example, we offer web design services. If you click that link and go to our services page, when you scroll down you will see all of our services, and then you can click through to each service and find out more. Want to know more about logo design? There’s a page for that. Web design? There’s a page for that. Marketing? We do that too.
If you spend the time to really build out your services pages, you’ll get rewards both in the search engine results, but in conversions on your website. How long has it been since you updated your services page? If it’s been over a year, it’s time to take a look and think about how you can improve.
Remember, a good website is never done. It’s always a work in progress. As your business grows, so should your website.
